Seared Scallops with Avocado Mousse and Chipotle Sauce

I’m a sucker for anything made using avocados and Avocados from Mexico reign supreme. Avocados are high in potassium and rich in monounsaturated fat, the heart-healthy kind and eating avocados can promote healthy skin and hair. So this appetizer is not only delicious but good for you, bonus! So here’s the skinny on avocados. Mexican avocados have a minimum of 21% fat, an average of 25%, and some even reach 30%. So in a nutshell, the higher the fat percentage, the creamier, and richer the avocado.

Clams Stir Fried in Roasted Chili and Basil

Food soundtrack: Sea of love by Cat Power My favourite food is shellfish and any sort of crustaceans. I love mussels, oysters any seafood really that requires peeling out of a shell. Clams is one of those delights that in Thailand is easy to come by and it doesn’t matter what Italian restaurant I am in, I always get the pasta vongole. This recipe requires Thai chilli paste (nam prik paw) it adds that sweet but spicy flavour that is such a staple of Thai cooking.

Shrimp with Mango Chutney Yogurt Dip

I love a good shrimp cocktail. The best I ever tasted was on the coast of the Riveira Maya. Cocteles de mariscos is her name. My husband and I were there in the summer of 2009, enjoying one of our many home exchanges. If you haven’t yet experienced this wonderful way of traveling, do give it a try. We have had many wonderful trips exchanging our flat in Prague for homes all around the world.

I was craving lox and bagels schmeared with cream cheese, capers, and pickled red onions from this food stand at the SF Ferry Building Farmer’s Market, but I was also craving a salmon burger. So I thought I’d combine the two into one and created a salmon burger with cream cheese. It was the perfect compromise.

Fried Green Tomatoes with Crab and Remoulade Sauce

Inspiration: I have had this recipe bookmarked since the day that I ran across it last year, just waiting for some green tomatoes to grace my kitchen. Luckily, Brandon’s parents are awesome and stocked us up with a whole heap of amazing produce from their garden the other day, including three gorgeous green tomatoes. Brandon and I both adore them, so we couldn’t wait to use them.

New England Lobster Rolls

I just returned home from two lovely weeks on the East Coast! I spent the first ten years of my life in New England and my college years in New Jersey, but I hadn’t been back in over two years. It was wonderful to see the friends and family that I was able to see, and I insisted on doing all of the tourist activities we could possibly fit in! Most of my to-see list consisted of breweries and creameries (cheese AND ice cream!), and I also ate a lot of seafood that I had never tried as a kid, like lobster…
