Homemade Cola Syrup

I came across this recipe for homemade cola syrup in the New York Times, and I was intrigued. It’s adapted from the Brooklyn Farmacy and Soda Fountain I keep reading about. I adore ice cream sodas and the idea of the old fashioned soda fountain. I wouldn’t mind a new career as a full time soda jerk. Until we find a way to make that happen in Olympia, I will play around with homemade syrups and bump up bottling my own sodas on the agenda. This list of ingredients is so fascinating, I had to photograph each…

Ginger Orange Tea

I’m back! So sorry for the recipe drought the past few weeks. October is always a crazy busy month in our house and this year was no exception. It’s a good busy though. We enjoyed the company of distant friends, my little brother got married (still kind of blowing my mind), and then we took a trip to New York. New York was gorgeous. Positively glowing with fall colors. We spent our days hiking to plunging, splashing, cascading waterfalls and the evenings dining on the culinary gems of the Finger Lakes…

Jamaica Iced Tea

Jamaica iced tea is everywhere in Mexico — in almost every restaurant, offered by many street stands, in large, glass jars in the markets. The grocery stores sell jamaica (ha-MY-ka) by the bag full, and bulk herb and grain stores sell it loose. It is always served cold with plenty of ice, and in Mexico it is also served overly sweet, like red liquid candy. If we order it with a meal, we only order one and a glass of ice water. A few tosses back and forth between the two glasses, and we have two ruby…

Peachberry Granita

Lately I’ve been on a cold drink and frozen treat kick and I had memories of a frozen dessert like drink that kept me buzzing for hours while in Italy. It was a coffee flavored granita. Think snow cone like texture, but way better, and healthier. I decided that since I’m not in Italy (darn it) it would be at least fun to make an attempt at something similar, but fruity and cool.

Pour Me a Cold One | Red Lotus Martini

Friends, I have some wise words to share. Listen closely. Sometimes the only solution is a stiff drink. Plain and simple. So next time you have no idea what the heck to do, pour yourself a stiff one, sit back, and chill out. I’m quite certain that some of the best decisions have been made after contemplation over a good, strong drink. But maybe that’s just me. Apparently Albert Einstein hated liquor, but we all can’t be brainiacs in the absence of alcohol now can we?

Sandiatini

Serve a little bit of sparkle and dazzle and serve Sandiatinis while enjoying the rockets€™ red glare. It’€™s a grown-up version of our refreshing Agua de Sandia with a splash of coconut rum. Delicioso!

Iced Chai Tea Latte

Last week, while flipping through a photo montage of Will and Kate’s North American visit, a photo of Kate’s shoes caught my eye – it looked like there was something on her foot. I squinted my eyes and leaned in closer. “Looks like something on her pantyhose,” I remarked. Jade, standing next to me chimed in, “Yeah, but it’s just on one pantyho, though.” I immediately paused. Um, what?!Maintaining my composure so as not to upset or startle her (but wanting desperately to laugh), I said calmly…
