Shaved Spring Salad

These simple, spectacular dishes are great for an afternoon lunch or a small weekend party. Asparagus just came into season, that’s enough reason for me to celebrate! shaved spring salad This salad is so light and fresh – perfect for this kind of weather. Vegetables serve two, dressing serves 8-10. Using a vegetable peeler, peel two large carrots and four large stalks of asparagus into a bowl. (Make sure to use the thick kind of asparagus, it’s easier to peel. Slice a grapefruit in half, then cut off the…

Tomato, Basil, and Cheddar Soup

It’s funny to think that as little as two years ago, I didn’t like tomato soup. I don’t know where this dislike stemmed from since I’m pretty sure I never even attempted to try tomato soup growing up and give it a fair chance.

Crab-Stuffed Avocados

The house I grew up in outside of Boston is directly across the street from Sylivia Plath’s childhood home. I remember one day when I was in fourth grade, up to my ears in The Golden Compass and Redwall and full of dreams of someday being a writer, my mom casually told me that a very famous writer had grown up in the house across the street…

Strawberry and Vanilla Tea Cakes

I love to bake cakes. I have always loved to bake cakes.  Some things never change. As a girl, there was nothing that made me happier than an invitation to help my Mom in the kitchen, especially if she was baking. I loved turning the crank on the sifter and watching the flour fall through like snow. I loved stirring the batter with the long wooden spoon whose handle was worn smooth as a stone. I loved licking the bowls and the spoons after she had scraped the batter into the pan (I especially loved this)…

Sea Salt Baked Sweet Potatoes (Purple + Gold)

An earthy, salty-sweet baked potato recipe that delivers so much pleasure and comfort. The sweetness of the purple and gold potatoes plays off the tang of the lemon-spiked mustard dressing, and the electric colour and fluffy texture of the potato flesh makes these the prettiest, tastiest and healthiest spuds going around.

Vegan Korma –A Sweet and Mild Indian Curry

The korma-style curry is my ultimate favorite. It’s sweet, mildly spicy, creamy…and just tastes so exotic. One taste, and I was hooked! I’ve tried many different recipes–all of which weren’t quite right–and have 34 versions saved in my bookmarks… in a folder titled “I will Conquer Korma.” True story. This curry has driven me insane trying to replicate the texture and flavor I order at my local Indian restaurant.

Red Beet Ravioli

This is yummy – really yummy. Red Beet Ravioli is an appetizer I used to get at a phenomenal local Italian restaurant. The restaurant focuses on fresh, seasonal fare so this was eventually rotated off the menu and I was left to try and figure out how to make it myself at home. I think I succeeded in creating something I love just as much. It simple, light and looks a whole lot fancier than it is!

Sausage Stuffed Quails

I stumbled upon two frozen quails and link of homemade Italian sausage in my quest to clean out my freezer. Score! Of course my mind wandered back to eating the magical stuffed quails that night. I have no idea how they made them, but I did my best to recreate them at home.

Homemade Jammie Dodgers

These cookies are delicious, however I found them difficult to make.  I’m not sure where I went wrong, the recipe is very simple and straight forward.  Confused still.    I followed the recipe and could not get the dough to form, it was all crumbly.  I fixed that easily by adding more butter, 2 extra tablespoons.
